Reflexology: An alternative healing method

By: Kymberli Ker, RCRT

Helping patients like Diana is what drives me.

Diana, 35, suffers from depression, anxiety and elevated levels of stress. She’s been taking antidepressants for over 15 years now.

After relying on traditional medicine for years to help her deal with her mental health issues, she decided to explore a more natural route: reflexology.

On her first visit, we reviewed her health history, including her mental health, medications, diet and lifestyle. I explained how reflexology is used to stimulate the reflex points in the feet that correspond to each of the body parts, organs and systems. By applying specific pressure to these reflex points, the body’s natural healing process kicks in and the body works its way back to homeostasis, or a healthy balance.

The Result

IMG_3339I completed the treatment, gave her recommendations for post-treatment care and set up a follow up time to see how she was feeling.

After a couple of days, I contacted Diana to see how she was doing. She was shocked. She felt fantastic mentally, “up lightened and bright,” she exclaimed.

To her, the treatment had a profound effect on her mental state. She indicated that physically she felt more energized. She was set to book her next appointment.

I’ve been working with Diana for over 6 months now. Under the guidance of her doctor, she has reduced her antidepressant medication in half and continues to see me for treatment.

Reflexology is a complementary health care for people with a variety of conditions and illnesses. It’s a centuries old practice and is a natural alternative healing method that anyone can benefit from.
