Support bank street businesses
Our local businesses in Ottawa enrich our community daily and are the lifeblood of our sustainable local economy. In the case of our Downtown independent businesses, they are often the people you know by name. We celebrate when these local names succeed and regret when they are forced to close their doors.
Shopping locally during this challenging time for Ottawa and Bank Street business is more than a “good idea” it is a necessity to help keep these small businesses flourishing.
Here are some ways to support small businesses:
Buy meals from local restaurants for delivery or takeout
Shop small businesses online (check out our website for a list of businesses www.bankstreet.ca)
Use shipping, door-to-door and delivery services where available
Consider purchasing gift cards for future use – they’ll receive the revenue now while foot traffic is down and you’ll have something to look forward to!
Share, tweet, post about your favourite small business – ❤️let’s spread some positivity!
Purchase your personal items, shampoo, soaps, face wash, creams etc. from local businesses instead of busy box stores
Don’t cancel appointments, reschedule if possible
The above businesses offer delivery or take out directly from their websites. This list may change and may not be fully up to date. You can also check ordering services such as UberEats and Skip The Dishes for restaurants in our area OR trying calling your favourite local restaurant as some are only taking orders over the phone.
“Like any kind of activity outside the home, if you go out to get something or pick something up, you should continue to think you could encounter the virus and to wash your hands when you get home and take those precautions. We are asking people to limit those activities as much as possible, so my recommendation would be to cook at home as much as you can, but otherwise (takeout) is an option for people.” – Dr. Vera Etches, Medical Officer of Health, Ottawa Public Health
If you’ve decided to opt for food delivery in order to avoid packed grocery stores or to support small businesses, there are some “creative solutions” to stay virus-free and this can include having a delivery person place the food on a designated table for you to pick up yourself, using rubbing alcohol to wipe down the box, and ensuring that you wash your hands.
